The echoes of film and the light of spotlights converged again on the streets of Kyiv: the opening of the 53rd Kyiv International Film Festival "Youth" took place in the capital of Ukraine. This event became a symbol not only of the revival, but also of the indomitability of Ukrainian cinematography, which is waking up from the winter sleep of the pandemic and war.

Opening of the festival: a symbolic start

The opening ceremony was held at the House of Cinema and Cinema "Zhovten", where directors, actors and moviegoers gathered to mark the beginning of the nine-day movie marathon. The main film of the evening was the Polish drama "Two Sisters" by Lukasz Karwowski, where actors from Poland and Ukraine united to create an emotional road movie.

"The 'Youth' festival is not only a platform for finding new names in cinema. It is support, inspiration and experiments in the cinematography of Ukraine, " said Yuliya Shevchuk, acting head of State Cinema.

Honorary award and international recognition

This year's film festival honored Iranian director Mohammad Rasulof, persecuted in his country for criticizing the government, with an honorary "Scythian deer" for his contribution to cinema. "I am glad that I will be able to join the Ukrainian people, " he shared his impressions upon receiving the award.

New horizons and challenges

The festival demonstrated that, despite difficult times, Ukrainian cinema is alive and thriving. This became possible thanks to the efforts of the organizers and the support of the international community, which continues to believe in Ukrainian culture.
