Alec Baldwin: an unexpected turn in the case of the death of a cinematographer
Unexpected court battles are ongoing in the world of the film industry, which have already managed to attract the attention of millions. Alec Baldwin is back in the spotlight after a New Mexico state judge denied a prosecutor's request to review the manslaughter case against cameraman Galina Hutchins.
A dramatic moment on the set
The story begins in October 2021, when a tragedy occurred during the filming of the film "Rust". The dummy gun in Baldwin's hands unexpectedly fired real ammunition, killing Galina Hutchins. This incident became a real shock for the entire film community.
Refusal to reopen the case
However, this year, Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer decided to finally close the case against the actor, finding the prosecution's arguments insufficient for review. Her decision is based on the lack of new evidence or legal grounds for reopening the case.
"The court has concluded that the prosecution has not made any factual or legal arguments that would justify granting the motion for reconsideration, " Judge Sommer said in her ruling.
Reaction and consequences
Attorney General Kari Morrissey has already announced her intention to appeal to a higher court. This decision only underscores the complexity of the case, which has already become a landmark for the US legal system.
And although Baldwin was cleared of responsibility, the case cannot be considered closed. In March 2024, a jury found weapons expert Hannah Gutierrez-Reid guilty of manslaughter for Hutchins, indicating an even more complicated situation.
Future prospects
This case leaves many questions about safety on film sets and responsibility for such tragedies. What its final result will be remains a mystery, but it already points to the need for reforms in the film industry.
