Andorra refused to participate in Eurovision 2025: the principality's unexpected decision
Switzerland has not yet had time to decide on the city of Eurovision 2025, when the big news appeared: Andorra refuses to participate. Broadcaster RTVA officially confirmed that the Principality of Andorra will not be returning to the competition, although their last performance was back in 2009.
Eurovision without Andorra: what was the reason?
Andorra, a small principality on the border between France and Spain, has a short but not very successful history at Eurovision. Having made their debut in 2004, they have never reached the finals, limiting themselves to only semi-final appearances. This led to low broadcast ratings and significant costs for participating in the competition.
Suzanne Georgi: hopes and disappointments
In recent years, singer Suzanne Georgi has been actively negotiating with the broadcaster, seeking to return Andorra to Eurovision. It could have happened as early as 2022, but RTVA decided to abandon the idea. The TV channel does not disclose the reasons for such a decision, leaving us to speculate about the true motives.
"We really wanted to come back, but unfortunately it didn't happen, " said Suzanne Giorgi in one of the interviews.
Historical context and consequences of the decision
Andorra has always been interesting to viewers because of its exotic status. However, their failures on the Eurovision stage prevented them from building a strong fan base. Refusal to participate in 2025 can have both positive and negative consequences for the country. On the one hand, they will save a lot of money, but on the other hand, they will lose the opportunity to be part of a big music festival.
What's next for Eurovision?
We will remind that Switzerland won Eurovision 2024, and now the country is preparing to host the competition next year. Of course, the absence of Andorra will not reduce the level of competition, but it leaves a certain void for those who have been waiting for the return of the principality.
"Despite everything, we leave the door open for future opportunities, " RTVA said.
We are waiting for new interesting announcements and surprises from other participating countries, because Eurovision always impresses with its surprises.
