Anita Lutsenko Reveals Surprising British Customs and Inspirational Stories
Anita Lutsenko, a renowned nutrition expert and television host, who has found temporary refuge in the United Kingdom with her daughter due to the war, shares her intriguing observations about British customs. While some of these traditions leave her puzzled, others have deeply inspired her.
Unusual British Etiquette
Lutsenko has encountered several British customs that seem quite odd to her as a Ukrainian. One of the most surprising practices is that Brits do not rinse the dishwashing soap off their dishes, opting instead to simply wipe them with a towel. Additionally, funeral ceremonies are held no sooner than a month after death, which is a stark contrast to Ukrainian traditions. She also notes the peculiar politeness where even if you accidentally step on someone's foot, the "victim" will apologize to you.
"There are things about the British that have surprised me a lot, " says Anita Lutsenko. "For instance, they don't rinse the dishwashing liquid off their dishes, and they hold funerals no sooner than a month after the person's death. Even if you step on someone's foot, they will apologize to you."
Admiration for British Attitudes
Despite some cultural shocks, Lutsenko is also fascinated by several British customs. She appreciates how openly the British discuss menopause and cancer, subjects often considered taboo in other cultures. This openness has provided her with new insights into body image and health norms.
"Here, I have learned a lot about the body, about beauty standards that are different from ours, and about attitudes towards it. Particularly, the British talk a lot about menopause and are not ashamed to discuss cancer."
Inspirational Encounter
Anita also shares an inspiring story of a remarkable 76-year-old woman she met in the UK. This woman, who still remembers the bombings of London during World War II, continues to live an active life. She wears high heels, has been practicing intermittent fasting for 40 years, and changes boyfriends when they "stop making her laugh."
"I met an incredible 76-year-old woman here who still wears high heels, has been doing intermittent fasting for 40 years, and changes boyfriends when they 'stop making her laugh.' I wrote a book about her and hope her example will inspire our women."
Anita Lutsenko's experiences in the UK offer a unique perspective on the cultural differences and similarities that shape our understanding of health, etiquette, and aging. Her stories not only highlight the quirks of British life but also serve as a source of inspiration and reflection for many.
