Is it worth watching new films by Tim Burton and based on Dumas? Here's what the critics say
This week brings moviegoers two long-awaited movie premieres at once. Tim Burton returns with the sequel to his cult film "Beetlejuice", and a new adaptation of the famous Alexandre Dumas novel - "The Count of Monte Cristo" is coming to the big screen.
Beetlejuice is back: Will it live up to expectations?
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is more than just a sequel. After a family tragedy, three generations of the Dietz family once again face the afterlife. Lydia, still haunted by a demon, tries to cope with new challenges, including her rebellious daughter Astrid, who accidentally opens a portal to the afterlife.
As soon as someone says the name "Beetlejuice" three times, the demon returns and wreaks havoc in his signature style.
The film will be released in Ukraine on September 5, 2024 with an IMDb rating of 7.2 out of 10. The film stars: Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, Catherine O' Gara and many others. Burton, who has recently strayed a bit from his gothic roots, is once again returning to his unique style.
The Count of Monte Cristo: The eternal classic in a new way
The new adaptation of the famous novel by Alexandre Dumas promises to be epic. The story of Edmond Dantes, who becomes a victim of a conspiracy and spent 14 years in captivity, returns to the screens in an even more dramatic and intense version. After escaping from the island of Chateau d'If, he returns under a new name to seek revenge.
This film has already impressed the world at the Cannes Film Festival, collecting 62 million dollars at the global box office.
Directors Mathieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellier brilliantly embodied all the dramatic twists of the plot on the screen, having spent 43 million euros on the creation. Actor Pierre Ninet played the main role and even learned to hold his breath for a long time to shoot the underwater scenes. The film has a high rating on IMDb of 8.0 out of 10.
Why should you watch?
If you're a fan of Tim Burton's dark humor or love epic adventures like The Count of Monte Cristo, these movies are for you.
