Iryna Soponaru's husband mastered Ukrainian in four months: a unique story
Life in a new country is always associated with challenges, but for Briton Rhys, the husband of the star of "Women's quarter" Irina Soponaru, these challenges have also become an exciting adventure. In just four months, he managed to master the Ukrainian language, despite the fact that he has been living in Ukraine for three and a half years.
Intensive pace of learning
Risa's lover, Iryna Soponaru, said in an interview that her husband started learning Ukrainian not immediately after arriving in Ukraine, but only in the last four months. The war became a catalyst for him to learn the language, since before that he only knew Russian.
"When the war started, Rhys did not yet speak Ukrainian, he spoke Russian very well, " Iryna Soponaru explains.
Rhys himself confirmed her words:
"Yes, I started learning Ukrainian six months ago."
Motivation and support of friends
One of the reasons Rhys decided to learn Ukrainian was his reluctance to be the one constantly asked to translate. His best friend is a Ukrainian who lives in London, often helped him understand the intricacies of the language. They traveled together in Ukraine, which became excellent practice for Rhys.
A fateful decision
After the pandemic, Rhys decided to change his place of residence and moved to Kyiv. It was there that he met Irina, which became a real turning point for him. He considers this decision to be fateful, because now he has not only mastered the language, but also met his love.
"I didn't want to be the same person in the company who constantly asks to translate into Russian, " shares Rees.
Conclusions and plans for the future
Learning the language in such a short time was a real achievement for Rhys. This not only helped him better understand the people around him, but also became a symbol of his respect for his new home. He and Iryna plan to continue their lives in Ukraine, and who knows what other achievements await them ahead.
