Two years ago, it became known that HBO began working on a spinoff of the popular series "Game of Thrones", dedicated to Jon Snow. However, the filming of the show never started. Actor Kit Harington, who played the role of Jon Snow, explained what got in the way.

Kit Harington on the cancellation of the series

According to the 37-year-old actor, the project about Jon Snow was canceled due to the lack of a decent plot. The team failed to develop character development that would make sense to continue the story.

"In our case, it was simply that we couldn't come up with a suitable idea for the further development of the character. The longer we thought about it, the less sense a spinoff made. That's why we abandoned the project, " admitted Herrington

Emphasis on the prequels

HBO decided to focus its efforts on the prequels "House of the Dragon" and "Knight of the Seven Kingdoms", the latter of which is already being prepared for release. The choice in favor of prequels shows the network's strategy to expand the Game of Thrones universe in a different way.

Idea from the actor himself

Earlier it became known that it was Kit Harington who proposed the idea of a spinoff about Jon Snow. He even brought his team to the project. However, despite all efforts, the talks did not move to the stage of implementation.

Historical context

Game of Thrones aired from April 17, 2011 to May 9, 2019, with a total of eight seasons and 73 episodes. Despite the cancellation of the Jon Snow spinoff, the Game of Thrones universe continues to expand with new projects.
