Coldplay set a new standard for touring

The British rock group Coldplay set a new record in the music industry. Their "Music of the Spheres" world tour became the most profitable in history, earning nearly a billion dollars!

Overtaking Elton John

Earning $945.7 million, Coldplay was able to surpass Elton John's previous achievement with his farewell tour "Farewell Yellow Brick Road", which collected $939.1 million. Impressive, but this is not the only record that "Music of the Spheres" set.

Records and achievements of the tour

During the tour, Coldplay sold 8.8 million tickets - a record number for rock artists in the last almost 40 years. Their tour started in March 2022 and has been going on for over a year now, setting new standards for world tours.

"We are simply overwhelmed by the support of our fans and grateful to everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey, " said frontman Chris Martin.

Historical context

Until that moment, the record for the highest-grossing tour belonged to Elton John, who in 2022 surpassed U2's "360 Tour", which collected $736.4 million between 2009 and 2011. Even earlier, the leadership was held by The Rolling Stones' "A Bigger Bang" tour, which collected $558 million in 2005-2007.

A look into the future

Coldplay are currently in the middle of their European leg of the tour, with shows in Australia and New Zealand to come. Without a doubt, this tour will leave an unforgettable mark in the history of the music industry, becoming a benchmark for future tours.
