Idris Elba purchased land in the Tanzanian archipelago and received a building permit from the country's president, Samia Suluhu Hassan.

According to information from the Minister of Investments of Zanzibar, the new film studio will be similar to those that exist in Hollywood (USA) and Bollywood (India). Names such as Zawood and Zollywood are being considered but no final decision has been made yet.

The President of Tanzania discussed this large-scale project with Elba in January 2023 at the World Economic Forum, which was then held in Switzerland. After the meeting, the press secretary of the president noted that if successful, the project will help not only Tanzania, but also East and Central Africa.
