Kate Winslet is frank about her body on the screen and Ukraine: "It's not damn brave"
British actress Kate Winslet recently shared her thoughts on carnality in cinema and mentioned Ukraine in the promotional campaign of the new film "Lee".
Kate Winslet: not about bravery
Kate Winslet, who is known for her frankness and emotionality, in a new interview with Time magazine talked about her feelings about showing the body in movies. In response to comments that she was brave for showing her body on screen after years of being bullied for her weight early in her career, Winslet said she did not consider it brave.
"It's not damn brave. I'm not a former postmaster who fights for justice, I'm not in Ukraine. I'm doing work that's important to me, " the actress said.
The film "Lee" and the importance of authenticity
In her new film Lee, Kate Winslet plays World War II photographer and journalist Lee Miller. Her role includes scenes with nudity. Winslet emphasized that it was important for her to show her real body on screen, without hiding it with cosmetics or special effects.
"It's my job to show real women and their stories. And if I have to get naked for that, I'm ready to do it, " the actress added.
A message for modern women
Winslet also noted that she is annoyed by the word "bravery" in the context of women who feel comfortable in their bodies without makeup. She believes that such actions should not require bravery, because it is natural.
"We live in a world where a woman has to meet certain standards of beauty. But real women have real bodies, and that's okay, " Kate concluded.
In her speeches, Winslet always pays attention to important social issues, and this time she did not miss the mention of Ukraine, showing her support for the country.
