Event organizers Barracuda Music announced the cancellation of three planned concerts by Taylor Swift in Vienna. The reason is the threat of a terrorist attack, confirmed by government officials.

Disturbing news for Taylor Swift fans

The concerts that were supposed to take place on August 8, 9 and 10 at the Ernst Happel Stadium will now not take place. The official statement on the organizer's website states:

"With government officials confirming a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no choice but to cancel the three scheduled shows for everyone's safety."

Terrorist threat: details of the investigation

An Austrian police investigation revealed that two men planned to carry out terrorist attacks during Swift's concerts. One of the arrested, a 19-year-old youth, swore allegiance to the Islamic State terrorist group. According to the director of the Vienna State Police, Franz Ruf,

"During our investigation, we discovered preparatory actions and noted that the 19-year-old suspect was particularly focused on the Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna."

Safety precautions and next steps

Police said the arrests were made on Wednesday and they are now looking for another suspect who may be connected to the plot. Officials added that the two arrested were radicalized online and had specific plans to attack the concerts, which were expected to draw up to 65, 000 people each day.

What this means for fans

The cancellation of the concerts was a big disappointment for Taylor Swift fans. Many of them have already bought tickets and planned a trip to Vienna. The organizers promise a refund and ask everyone to remain calm.
