Marina Krut, the talented Ukrainian bandurist and singer, has captured the hearts of listeners worldwide with her recent performance at Seattle's iconic radio station KEXP. Her appearance marks a significant moment for Ukrainian culture, showcasing its global reach and impact.

A Momentous Debut at KEXP

Krut's performance, recorded on January 24, 2025, was a testament to her unique musical talent and was met with enthusiastic acclaim upon its release on KEXP's YouTube channel. The opportunity to perform on this prestigious platform is a rare honor, previously granted to only a select few Ukrainian artists such as DakhaBrakha and DakhDaughters.

The Heartfelt Performance

During her set, Marina delivered four captivating songs: "Hory, " "Pisne Moya, " "OK, " and "Lehkozaymisti." Each song was not only a showcase of her musical prowess but also a narration of poignant stories that touched the audience deeply. Krut shared moving anecdotes, revealing inspirations drawn from her encounters, including a poignant story of a soldier from the Carpathians longing for his homeland.

"I met a soldier two years ago at the front. He was from the Carpathians, and when I asked if he missed anything, he said he missed his mountains. This inspired me to write a song about a soldier and his love for the mountains, " Krut recounted.

The Bandura's Resonance

Marina didn’t just perform; she also enlightened her audience about the historical significance of her instrument, the bandura. She explained that despite historical oppression, the bandura remains a symbol of her country's resilience and cultural identity.

"We had many repressions, and even now, 30 years on, I question if I can think in Ukrainian in Ukraine. But I have this freedom now, thanks to those who fight for us in eastern Ukraine, " she passionately expressed.

A Global Reception

Krut's performance resonated far beyond the studio walls. Fans expressed their admiration across social media, hailing her as a standout talent and applauding the platform for spotlighting Ukrainian music. The poignant closing of the broadcast with the host’s heartfelt "Slava Ukraini!" further solidified the emotional connection shared across borders.

This performance not only elevates Marina Krut as an ambassador of Ukrainian culture but also underscores the growing global appreciation for its rich, authentic sound.
