The former "wife" of the legendary Freddie Mercury, Mary Austin, is in the spotlight again after news of the record sale of Queen's music catalog for an impressive £1 billion.

Mary Austen: A Story of Great Love and Inheritance

Mary Austin, who was the closest person to Freddie Mercury throughout his life, will now receive 187.5 million pounds after the deal with Sony. Despite the end of their romantic relationship after Freddie's confession of his homosexuality, they always remained close friends.

Queen catalog record sales

Queen has sold its iconic music catalog for a record sum. The deal with Sony Music more than doubled the previous record held by Bruce Springsteen. The company now owns all of the band's hits, such as "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "I Want To Break Free."

The uniqueness of Queen's music remains relevant

"Queen have found a much younger audience. And that's unique for a legacy catalog, " the music expert noted.

This confirms the band's popularity among younger generations, which significantly increases the value of their catalog.

How the funds are distributed after the sale

In addition to Mary Austin, proceeds from sales also benefit the band's living members: Roger Taylor, John Deacon and Brian May. It's important to note that Queen retains the rights to perform their music live, continuing to tour with Adam Lambert as their new frontman.

What awaits Mary Austen now?

After receiving the payment, Mary Austin will enter the Top 100 richest women in Great Britain. She also remains one of the trustees of the Mercury Phoenix Trust, a charity established in Freddie's honour.
