Myroslav Kuvaldin: Family ties and patriotism in the conditions of war
Myroslav Kuvaldin, known as the leader of the band The VYO, and currently a serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, shared his personal experiences regarding difficult family relations with relatives in Russia. He talked about how his family ties changed in the context of the ongoing war.
Breakthrough in the relationship: Rejection of communication
According to Kuvaldin, even before the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, his family decided to stop communicating with relatives in Russia. This decision was made back in the 90s after the death of the grandmother, who was the only center uniting the family. Since then, all contact has been terminated and ties have been severed.
Local pride: Mother's patriotic feelings
Despite the fact that Myroslav's mother comes from Kaluga, Russia and has Russian citizenship, she shows a clear pro-Ukrainian position. Now she lives in Poltava Oblast and is actively switching to the Ukrainian language. According to Kuvaldin, although mother is too lazy to learn the language, she makes efforts to improve her skills. "I spoke to her in Russian for many years, now in Ukrainian, let's see what effect it will have", shared the musician.
Moving to a new level: The impact of war on personal life
For Myroslav Kuvaldin, as well as for many other Ukrainians, the war became an important test that changed his life. Military service not only broke old bonds, but also helped to form new values and beliefs. Refusal to communicate with relatives became a symbol of a new chapter in his life.
