Odesa Film Festival moves to Kyiv: cultural diplomacy in a safe environment

In 2024, the Odesa International Film Festival is changing its location. From July 12 to 20, the event will take place in the capital of Ukraine - Kyiv. The reason for this decision is obvious: ensuring the safety of the participants and guests of the festival due to constant shelling of Odessa.

A large-scale program of 92 films

This year, the festival program includes 92 films, most of which are feature films. Documentary films and a children's program will also be among the presented works. The organizers emphasize that the festival is not only an opportunity to enjoy cinema, but also an important tool of cultural diplomacy.

"Odesa Film Festival is not only an opportunity to enjoy high-quality cinema, but also an important part of cultural diplomacy that promotes communication between Ukrainian and international filmmakers."

Competitive programs: national and European accents

At this year's festival, two main competition programs remained: National and European. The Ukrainian program includes 10 new feature films and documentaries, most of which are devoted to the war, which has been going on for ten years. This allows viewers to look at the war through the prism of different life stories and emotions.

Hope for a return to peaceful Odessa

The organizers and participants of the festival hope that next year the event will be able to return to its native city - Odesa. Despite all the difficulties, the festival continues to be an important cultural platform that unites film artists from all over the world.

Summary and meaning of the event

The Odesa International Film Festival in Kyiv is not only an opportunity to enjoy cinema, but also a powerful example of cultural stability and diplomacy. Moving the event to a safer place allows traditions to be preserved and dialogue between cultures to continue, despite difficult circumstances.
