Oleksiy Horbunov: connection with Ukraine through music and cinema

Today, October 29, the famous Ukrainian actor Oleksiy Horbunov celebrates his 63rd birthday. This is not just a date on the calendar, but a symbolic milestone in the life of a person who chose a difficult path, giving up a career in Russia for the sake of Ukraine.

The choice that changed everything

In 2014, Gorbunov made a decision that changed his life. After the start of the war in Donbas, he gave up a successful career in Russia, where he could often be seen in leading roles. This decision was an emotional verdict from which not everyone could recover.

"When I was with these boys after the hospital, when I saw young people without arms, without legs... We all know the cyborgs, we talked to them all, starting from the hospitals, " Gorbunov shares.

"Pilot's sadness": music as a way of salvation

After refusing Russian contracts, Gorbunov joined the music group "Pilot's Sadness". Music became a new way for him to express his feelings and support the Ukrainian military. The band performed in front of those who suffered as a result of hostilities, giving them not only moral support, but also hope.

Experiencing the war in the Motherland

In February 2024, Gorbunov admitted that he felt the situation in Ukraine like a broken heart. This feeling is close to many Ukrainians, regardless of where they are.

"It's a pain that's with you all the time, " the actor explains.

Currently, Oleksiy Gorbunov continues to tour with "Pilot's Sadness" and appear on the theater stage. He can also be seen in the videos of Ukrainian bloggers, which testifies to his active public position and devotion to art.
