"Kinokol" nominees: who are they?

Kinokolo National Award of Film Critics has announced the list of nominees, including the most outstanding achievements of Ukrainian cinematography over the past year. The winners will be announced on October 17 during the opening of the "Kyiv Week of Criticism" festival.

From Kurkov to Moiseev: "Grey Bees"

One of the favorites of this year's award is the wartime drama "Grey Bees" based on the novel of the same name by Andriy Kurkov. Director Dmytro Moiseev has already won recognition at international festivals, and now the film is in the running for 4 Kinokolo awards.

"Grey Bees" tells about life in a "gray zone" village in Donetsk region, where only two elderly men are left to live. This film sincerely and deeply reveals the characters and motives of our people from the occupied territories.

Courage and humor: "Lessons of tolerance"

Arkady Nepytalyuk's satirical comedy "Lessons of Tolerance" also collects "Kinokol" nominations. The tape was already presented at the "Golden Dizzy", where, although it did not win any awards, it attracted the attention of the audience with its courage and authenticity.

"Lessons of tolerance" is one of the boldest films of our cinema, which is full of self-irony and popular humor.

Acute social satire: "Editorial"

The ironic dramedy "Redaktsia" takes us to the second half of 2021 in the Kherson region. The tape, nominated for 4 awards, reveals the social and political problems of Ukrainian society through the prism of journalism.

"Editorial" is a film-judgment of pre-war society, a film-premonition of an imminent war, which very skillfully balances between drama and tragicomedy.

All these films in their own way reflect the current state of Ukrainian cinematography, enriching it with new themes and approaches. The fight for victory will be tough, but each of them deserves attention and recognition.
