Robert Pattinson is back in space: the first trailer for Bong Joon Ho's new film "Mickey 17"
Famous director Bong Joon Ho presented the first trailer of his new movie "Mickey 17". The main role was played by Robert Pattinson, who plays colonist Mickey Barnes, forced to experience numerous deaths and rebirths during dangerous space missions.
Bong Joon Ho's first feature film since "Parasite"
The film "Mickey 17" is based on the novel "Mickey 7" by Edward Ashton, released in 2022. This is Bong Joon-ho's first work since his Oscar-winning Parasite (2019), which won Best Picture. The new film also stars Stephen Yon and Mark Ruffalo.
"Mickey 17" promises to be not only a sci-fi comedy, but also a sharp social commentary, which Bong Joon Ho knows how to make like no other.
Cloning and social criticism: what awaits the audience
The plot of the film revolves around the interplanetary colonist Mickey Barnes, who chooses the work of "expendable material". He performs the most dangerous tasks for the colony, and every time he dies, he is cloned. Ho is known for his criticism of society, and this film will be no exception. Although the trailer may give the impression that we are in front of only a comedy, it is worth remembering that the works of the director, such as "Parasite" and "Snowman", always have deeper implications.
The first space odyssey by Bong Joon Ho
"Mickey 17" will be Bong Joon Ho's first film that takes place outside of our planet. The trailer is already available on the official website, and ticket sales will begin shortly before the premiere, scheduled for January 31, 2025.
Whether Ho will be able to combine his unique social critique with the new sci-fi format remains to be seen. But one thing can be said for sure: "Mickey 17" promises to be an exciting journey both for fans of the director and for new viewers.
