Star Trek is not always lined with gold. Rupert Grint, the famous British actor who gained worldwide fame thanks to the role of Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films, faced a disappointing reality: the court ordered him to pay £1.8 million in taxes. This verdict was the culmination of a complex legal case that lasted for several years.

The tax trap: how it all began

Grint's problems began back in 2019, when the British tax office decided to review one of his returns. It turned out that in 2011-2012, the actor received a considerable amount from his business company, in which he was the sole shareholder. The sum of £4.5 million was described as residual income and bonuses from the success of the Harry Potter films.

Court battles: Grint against the taxman

The actor tried to argue that he was entitled to pay capital gains tax at a rate of 10%, rather than the maximum income tax rate of 52%. However, unfortunately, Grint's arguments did not convince the judge.

"The money received from the company is income taxed at the ordinary rate, " the judge said in her decision.

Consequences and predictions: what awaits the star

What consequences now await Grint? Of course, the amount of 1.8 million pounds is not a small thing, even for a movie star. However, it can be expected that this will become an important lesson in financial matters for the actor. Rupert, who has long since emerged from the shadow of his "Harry Potter" character, will now focus on new projects and possibly change the approach to managing his own finances.
