MUR's Bold Move: Real Audience Kisses in "You (Romance)" Musical
Have you ever been swept off your feet by a character from a play, quite literally? The musical "You (Romance)", presented by the art group MUR, has become a sensation not just for its artistic expression but for a daring move that blurs the lines between performance and reality.
Enchanting Audiences with Unpredictable Acts
Oleksandr Khomenko, co-founder of MUR, sheds light on a captivating element of their latest musical. Each performance includes a scene where the character Mykhailo Symenko surprises the audience by selecting a real spectator for an onstage kiss. This bold interaction is completely unrehearsed and unfolds with genuine spontaneity.
"Every kissed spectator is someone who has come to watch the performance, " Khomenko reveals, emphasizing the authenticity of the act.
The Art of Choosing the Right Moment
The selection process is as intriguing as the kiss itself. Mykhailo Symenko, portrayed by a skillful actor, uses a series of subtle gestures and eye contact to ensure that the chosen spectator is willing to participate. This ensures a blend of excitement and respect, key ingredients for the theatrical magic.
Khomenko mentions that while most spectators embrace the moment, some do decline the unexpected offer. Out of 70 performances, approximately 15 individuals opted out, showcasing the genuine nature of these interactions.
Behind the Curtain: The Thoughtful Approach
What might seem spontaneous is actually a well-considered sequence of actions by Symenko's character. He starts by discreetly communicating with potential participants using a "system of language signs." If the chosen person agrees, a gentle choreography of movements leads to the climactic kiss, leaving both the participant and onlookers mesmerized.
The *"You (Romance)"* experience highlights how art can push boundaries and create moments that resonate beyond the confines of the stage. This innovative approach not only enhances audience engagement but also challenges conventional norms of theatrical performances.
As MUR continues to redefine the theater experience, one can only imagine what delightful surprises lie in store for their future productions.
