The release of Iranian rapper Tumaj Salehi was a real surprise for many. After spending a year behind bars, Salehi returned to his fans, who had already given up hope of seeing him free.

Rapper who became a symbol of protests

When the name Tumaj Salehi became known to the whole world, he was already more than just a musician. His songs became anthems for the protesters who took to the streets of Iran after the tragic death of Mahsa Amini.

"Salehi in his songs supported the months-long protests in Iran caused by the death of a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, in the district police station. She was taken there for allegedly wearing a hijab improperly."

History of imprisonment and release

In October 2022, Tumaj Salehi was arrested for publicly supporting the protests. At the same time, he was sentenced to death, which caused a wave of indignation among the international community. However, thanks to pressure from abroad, the sentence was changed to a year in prison, and Salehi was released again on December 2, 2023.

New challenges and perspectives

What can we expect from Salehi now that he is free again? His return to the stage can be a new turn in the fight against injustice. Will he be able to once again become the voice of the people who are not afraid to speak the truth? Time will tell.
