The premiere of the film "Rust" took place at the Polish Camerimage festival, which has already managed to attract the attention of critics and moviegoers. Alec Baldwin, the film's lead actor, received mixed reviews for his performance as Kansas outlaw Garland Rust.

A tragic shadow over the western

The events that took place on the set back in 2021 left their mark on the perception of the film. Ukrainian cameraman Halyna Hutchins tragically died during filming, which became a powerful impetus to discuss safety on film sets. Critics note that in one of the scenes of the film "Rust" there is an eerie deja vu that reminds of this tragedy.

"The second pull of the trigger results in a random character death, causing premiere-goers to hold their breath, " noted one critic.

Filming recovery: unanswered questions

Production was halted following the incident, but later resumed in 2023. This decision caused a wave of discussions, because many believe that the main reason for continuing filming was the need to return already invested funds. Although the charges against Baldwin were dropped, the film's gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reid is currently serving time in prison.

Impressions of critics: from creepy to delight

Critics note that, despite the shadow of tragedy hanging over the film, "Rust" impresses with its persuasiveness. The cinematography inspires wonder and admiration, and Baldwin, although not always consistent in his performance, still leaves a powerful impression. "Rust" embodies a classic western – unadorned and emotionally saturated.

"I thought it looked great with really amazing cinematography, " added one Polish critic.

What's next for "Irzhi"?

The premiere at Camerimage became a reference point for the film, which can become both a sensation and the object of new discussions. The main question is whether "Rust" will be able to arouse the interest of a wide audience without losing its essence.
