Slava Dyomin talked about the transformation of Ukrainian show business during the 33 years of Independence
At the end of summer, on August 24, Ukraine celebrates its main national holiday — Independence Day. During these 33 years, Ukrainian culture went through numerous ups and downs, and show business was no exception. The well-known TV host Slava Dyomin shared his memories and thoughts about how Ukrainian showbiz has changed during this time.
From Viktor Tsoi to Ukrainian hits
As a child, Slava Dyomin did not listen to Ukrainian artists - his mother preferred Russian singers Viktor Tsoi, Mykhailo Shufutynskyi and Volodymyr Vysotsky, as well as the British band Pink Floyd. However, everything changed when Demin became an adult and discovered "Territory A" — the first Ukrainian television hit parade of music videos, founded by singer Angelika Rudnitskaya.
"Ukrainian show business went in waves. There was some development, but Russian show business actively began to develop, and this is a large market, and it was possible to make money. And Ukrainian show business, including "Territory A", due to the fact that wanted to make extra money, and not to develop artists, they messed up this moment a little, " Demin noted.
Ukrainian performers on the radio
2004 was a landmark year for Ukrainian music — quotas for Ukrainian performers appeared on radio stations. This gave an impetus to the popularization of local stars. The "Pydyom" program also became an important platform for Ukrainian artists, as they began to be invited to the broadcasts.
The return of Russian show business
Despite the successes, Ukrainian show business again felt pressure from Russian performers. Stars like Kirkorov and Leps quickly returned to the Ukrainian market. Dyomin notes that many Ukrainian artists, striving for a quick profit, were not ready to work for the long term.
"Our artists, due to the desire for quick profit, were not ready to work for the long term. Russian showbiz is coming, so we need to become popular through Russia, " the host said.
Results and future of Ukrainian show business
Despite all the trials, Ukrainian show business continues to develop. Every year, new talents appear that find their way to success, and the efforts of many artists are already bearing fruit. The prospects of Ukrainian show business look promising, and we are sure that many more bright moments await us.
