Pine fall in Laima Vaikule estate: consequences of a storm in the Baltic
Nature once again reminded of its power this weekend, when a storm hit Latvia and the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. Jurmala, where the famous singer Laima Vaikule lives, became one of the epicenters of the disaster.
Unexpected "pine fall"
Vaikule, known for her support of Ukraine in difficult times, shared with her followers on social networks the consequences of bad weather on her estate. The wind knocked over a huge pine tree that had decorated her yard for many years. Fortunately, the tree fell on the lawn without harming the artist and her loved ones. "Pine fall", as Vaikule herself called the event, happened when all the residents of the house were fast asleep.
"It's good that everything worked out, " the singer shared her impressions, standing next to her beloved dog.
Consequences of the storm for Latvia
The natural disaster left about 4, 000 consumers without electricity throughout the country. The singer did not specify whether Vaikule was among those who were left without electricity. In the capital of Latvia, Riga, the storm tore down structures on eight residential buildings, forcing tram routes to be changed.
History of struggle against natural disasters
This storm is just one of many examples of how nature can change people's lives in an instant. The Latvian Center for Environment, Geology and Meteorology warned residents in advance of approaching bad weather, issuing first a yellow and then an orange warning. But even such measures cannot always protect against natural disasters.
A look into the future
The events of the past weekend once again remind us of the need to be prepared for natural disasters. Undoubtedly, Laima Vaikule, who has repeatedly faced challenges both on stage and in life, will restore her harmony. "Like a tree that will regenerate over time, " we can say about this situation.
