Stanislav Aseev, a well-known Ukrainian journalist and former political prisoner, recently announced his dismissal from the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This step came as a surprise to many, because Aseev remained at the front since March 2024.

A difficult decision: dismissal or a new service?

Aseev joined the ranks of the 109th Territorial Defense Brigade, where he participated in heavy battles in Donetsk region. However, after the disbandment of his battalion due to significant losses, Aseev was faced with a choice — to remain under "an unclear command" or to resign from the ranks of the Armed Forces. The journalist admits that he tried to transfer to the Main Directorate of Intelligence, but his request was ignored.

"I tried to transfer to the GUR. Mr. Budanov wrote a letter to the commander of the Territorial Defense Forces... But the letter, most likely, was simply thrown in the trash and was not transferred anywhere, " Aseev shares.

New horizons: public activity and literature

After his release, Aseev plans to focus on his public activities, in particular, on strengthening the work of the Justice Initiative foundation, which is engaged in the search for Russian war criminals. He is also thinking about finishing a book about his service that he started while fighting. This book can become not only a personal reflection of military experience, but also an important historical document.

Historical context: from captivity to freedom

Aseev knows what the struggle for survival is. In 2017, while working as a reporter in the occupied Donbass under the pseudonym "Stanislav Vasin", he was captured by DPR militants. Having spent 28 months in the torture chamber, the journalist did not lose faith and hope that he would be able to return to a normal life.

Conclusions: new challenges and perspectives

Dismissal from the Armed Forces is not the end, but a new beginning for Stanislav Aseev. His further actions in the public sphere can become an important contribution to the struggle for justice. And if the book he is working on is published, it will be not only a personal story, but also a powerful message for all those who fight for the truth.
