Secrets of filming "Guys": bloody scenes and incredible special effects
If you thought that the plot of "Guys" is an explosive cocktail, then behind the scenes of the series there is a real war for every frame. The fourth season, which just aired, not only continued the tradition of amazement, but also became even more epic.
A long way to the screens
"Guys" had a long and thorny road to their fans. The first attempts at adaptation date back to 2008, when the project was conceived as a film trilogy with director Adam McKay. However, due to creative differences, the project was stopped. It wasn't until 2017 that Amazon took on this ambitious idea, ordering a first season.
Balance of gore and reality
One of the key challenges for the team was to bring the brutal scenes from the comic to the screen. Robin's death scene was one of the most difficult in the first season. Initially, the plan was to combine CGI and practical effects, but in the end they opted for full CGI to achieve greater believability.
Big toys
One of the most impressive moments of the series was the scene of a collision between a boat and a whale. For this, an artificial whale of almost life size was created, and the filming of this scene took a whole week. The temperature inside the whale could reach 38 degrees, which greatly complicated the work of the actors.
Complex special effects
A particularly difficult task was the convincing portrayal of superpowers. Effects of flashes of light and lasers from the eyes were achieved with the help of high-speed cameras and real industrial lasers. For the flight scenes, a digital understudy and a shaky camera effect were used.
Superhero costumes
The actors' costumes also became a challenge. Erin Moriarty, who plays Zoryana, complained about the tight and uncomfortable costume, in which even going to the bathroom became an ordeal. Anthony Starr, who plays the Patriot, had an additional cooling system to keep from overheating on set.
Summary and future of the franchise
The fourth season of "Guys" has ended, but the show does not stop. We have one more season ahead of us, which will be the last, but the story will continue in new spinoffs like Generation We and other projects.
