Today, September 3, at the age of 74, People's Artist of Ukraine Hryhoriy Shumeiko passed away. Talented actor who left a significant mark in the national culture, having played more than 100 roles in theater and cinema, and was a true legend of the Ukrainian stage.

Shumeik's life and career

Hryhoriy Shumeiko was born on May 1, 1951 in Poltava Oblast. From early childhood, he sought to connect his life with art. His professional path began at the Kyiv State Institute of Theater Arts named after I. Karpenko-Kary, where he received an acting education. Later, he expanded his knowledge, graduating from the Theater Institute named after B. Shchukin, majoring in directing.

Contribution to culture

Shumeiko was not only an actor, but also a talented director who staged about 20 plays on his home stage of the National Theater named after Maria Zankovetska. Among the most popular roles of the artist were the prince in the production of "Mykyt Kozhumyak", Potemkin in "Christmas Night" and the 1st guard in "Cassandra". He won the love of the audience with the main role in the film "Marina and Oleksii".

Awards and recognition

For his achievements, Hryhoriy Shumeiko received the Order of Merit III degree and the Ministry of Culture award "For Achievements in the Development of Culture and Art". His contribution to the development of Ukrainian art is difficult to overestimate.
