Twitch introduces new rules: streamer DJs will now pay for music
Twitch has taken the bold step of signing a partnership deal with the world's biggest record labels. The move promises to be a game-changer for streamer DJs, forcing them to pay to use music on their live streams. The company reported this in X.
What does the new partnership mean for DJs?
Under the new terms, DJs will have to pay a percentage for the use of songs in their streams. While the exact percentage is being kept under wraps, reliable sources say the DJs and Twitch will split these fees in half, i.e. 50/50.
"This decision can change the entire ecosystem of DJ streams on the platform, " experts comment.
New subsidy from Twitch: help or another marketing ploy?
In order to soften the blow on the wallets of its users, Twitch offers an yearly subsidy to selected DJs. This subsidy is intended to help cover the difference between earnings and music licensing fees. However, the company has not yet disclosed details on how and to whom these subsidies will be provided and whether they will cover all license fees.
"This can be either a big plus or another marketing trap, " - analysts suggest.
Lovers will remain in the winnings
There is also good news for amateurs. Those who are not professional DJs will not be required to pay for the use of the music at all. Labels will still get their money from advertising on non-affiliated channels.
What's next?
This partnership could be the start of a new era for Twitch. Whether this decision will become a catalyst for the development of the platform or will lead to the outflow of DJs to other platforms, time will tell. One thing is clear so far: Twitch is not afraid of experiments and is ready for new challenges.
