In the heart of Kyiv, the Ukrainian House hosted a spectacle that transcended the boundaries of cinema. The Ukrainian National Film Festival "Cinema for Victory" concluded with a grand ceremony honoring powerful documentaries that shed light on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

Unveiling the Essence of Documentaries

Supported by the President of Ukraine and spearheaded by the State Film Agency, this festival was not just about films; it was a statement. It aimed to capture history, debunk Russian propaganda, and reveal the truth to the world. This year, the festival showcased 16 documentaries, with seven receiving accolades for their poignant storytelling.

"Our warriors give their lives, and we owe them a debt. We must tell their stories—now and after victory, " emphasized Andriy Donchyk, co-chair of the jury.

Celebrating Excellence in Cinema

The festival's awards honored the crème de la crème of documentary filmmaking. Best Feature Film went to "Memoria" by Domnikia Levchuk, while Best Short Film was clinched by "Flashback to the Future" directed by Semen Horov. The Best Director award was given to Kyrylo Bin for "Warriors of Science", and Best Cinematography to Oleksandr Stratienko for "Full Force". Special recognitions included the Sense Bank Award for "Call Sign 'Artist'" by Oleksandr Pecherytsia and the "Energy of Victory" from "Ukrnafta" for Dmitro Kuevda's "Operation 'Kursk'."

Homo Amans: The Heartfelt Grand Prix Winner

The Grand Prix was awarded to "Homo Amans" by Oleksandr Lydagovsky, a film that tells the touching story of rescuing animals amidst the chaos of war. The film's narrative resonated deeply, earning it a financial prize of 100, 000 UAH.

A Night to Remember

The ceremony was not just about awards. It was a vibrant gathering of officials, diplomats, filmmakers, and military personnel. The evening was illuminated by the performance of the singer TAYANNA, who added an emotional touch with her song "Khlopche."

Minister of Culture Mykola Tochitsky, awarding the Best Short Film, remarked:

"Art helps us overcome trauma. We will win! Glory to Ukraine!"

Reflecting on the Impact

This festival, supported without any state funds, was a collaboration between "UkrkinoFest", the "Molodist" International Film Festival, and Odesa Film Studio, with Sense Bank as the general partner and "Ukrnafta" as the official partner. "Cinema for Victory" stands as a beacon of truth, preserving memories that must never be forgotten.
