On Monday, September 2, the world premiere of the Ukrainian film "Honeymoon" directed by Zhanna Ozirnaya took place at the 81st Venice Film Festival. This event became a bright event that attracted the attention of the film community from all over the world.

Triumph of Ukrainian cinema in Venice

The "Honeymoon" team walked the red carpet to the legendary song Bella, ciao, which is considered a symbol of the Italian Resistance Movement during the Second World War. Director Zhanna Ozirna, producer Dmytro Sukhanov and actors Roman Lutskyi and Iryna Nirsha also unfurled the Ukrainian flag, adding even more emotional depth to the event.

New names in Ukrainian cinema

"Honeymoon" is the first full-length work of Zhanna Ozirnaya, who previously shot short films. At the heart of the plot is the story of a young couple, Taras and Oli, who are trapped in their new apartment in the suburbs of Kyiv during a full-scale invasion. Explosions, lack of electricity, water and mobile communication create an atmosphere of tension and hopelessness.

"This is the story of an acquaintance of mine who lives in the suburbs of Kyiv. After all, this is the story of many of our acquaintances, and for some it is also a personal story. The cinema became my way of reconnecting with the new reality and, I hope, the beginning of the process of healing and getting rid of the burden of guilt ", Ozirna says.

Recognition on the world stage

The film was screened in the Biennale College Cinema program, which fully funded its production. This is another example of how the international community supports Ukrainian culture in difficult times.

Future planning

"Honeymoon" was filmed in Kyiv at the beginning of 2024. Release in Ukrainian cinemas is planned for 2025. We can already say that the film has every chance to become one of the most significant events of Ukrainian cinematography in recent years.

What's next?

The 81st Venice Film Festival lasts from August 28 to September 7 and has already become a platform for showing the latest works of such authoritative directors as Tim Burton, Pedro Almodovar and others. This year's jury is headed by French actress Isabelle Huppert, which adds even more weight to the event.
