Ukrainian writer of crime novels Martyn Yakub made a sensational move by joining the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He announced this news on his Facebook page, shocking not only his fans, but also his pen colleagues.

Martyn Yakub is preparing for military service

43-year-old Martyn Yakub, known for his detective stories and thrillers, has already passed the military medical board and is actively preparing for training. He shared the news with his followers, showing a photo in military uniform.

"I'm going for a contract with the Armed Forces. All the papers are ready, I passed the VLK, I took beautiful photos. I'm going to the training center next week, " Yakub wrote.

Literary achievements and a new duty

Martyn Jakub is the author of several popular novels, including "None of Your Dog's Business" and "Dead Models". For his work, he received a number of awards, in particular, the laureate of the "Torch" award and the "BBC Book of the Year 2019". Last year, Yakub organized the exhibition "Shooted Alive" in Zhytomyr, where he presented 15 images of the writers of the "Shooted Renaissance".

Reorientation to help the military

It is impossible not to mention the charitable activities of the writer. His calendar for 2024 "Titans of the Twenties", the proceeds from the sale of which go to support the Ukrainian military, became another proof of Yakub's patriotism.

This unexpected step of the writer followed the example of other famous personalities, such as the actress Maria Agapitova, who also recently joined the ZSU. Now Martin Jakub is raising the bar of his civic activism, leaving a mark not only in literature, but also on the battlefield.
