From the forestry to the forefront of Ukraine’s music scene, the tale of Mykola Kucheriavyi is one of tenacity, passion, and serendipity.

The Leap from Greenery to Beats

Mykola Kucheriavyi, a name now respected across the Ukrainian showbiz landscape, didn’t always envision himself orchestrating musical success. As a child, he dreamed of a career in music, yet found himself pursuing forestry, a path his mother encouraged. "Where have you seen a poor forester?" she would say, steering him away from a less conventional career. But fate had other plans.

A Chance Encounter with Kalush Orchestra

In a twist of fate, Mykola found himself unemployed, seemingly on the brink of a career far removed from his dreams. Yet, a Facebook post by producer Ivan Klymenko caught his eye. The post was a beacon for those passionate about music, and it resonated deeply with Mykola. "That's me!" he thought, and as if by magic, he soon found himself managing Kalush Orchestra.

"I knocked off the call to finish my game, " Mykola recalls, highlighting how he almost missed the opportunity of a lifetime. The call was from Oleh Psiuk, Kalush's frontman, who would soon become a pivotal figure in Mykola’s career.

Eurovision and the Azovstal Controversy

Eurovision 2022 was a landmark event not just for the Kalush Orchestra but for Ukraine. The band’s urge to spotlight the plight of Azovstal during their performance was fraught with the risk of disqualification. Despite the looming danger, Mykola and the team pressed forward, driven by a sense of duty to their homeland. "We couldn't remain silent about Azovstal, " he asserted, a move that could have cost them the competition but instead, became a defining moment of political and cultural solidarity.

Building Beyond Music

Today, Mykola has evolved from manager to a pivotal figure within ENKO and beyond. He is a partner in multiple projects, continuously pushing the boundaries of Ukraine’s cultural landscape. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the transformative power of following one’s passion.
