Singer Yulia Yurina Faces Citizenship Hurdles in Ukraine
The journey of gaining Ukrainian citizenship is proving to be a challenging one for Russian-born singer Yulia Yurina. Despite having lived in the country for 13 years and fulfilling numerous requirements, Yurina's quest for a Ukrainian passport remains elusive.
Yulia Yurina's Citizenship Saga
Yulia Yurina, a singer residing in Ukraine, has found herself entangled in bureaucratic red tape in her pursuit of citizenship. Even after passing the language exam and submitting all necessary documents, her application was met with another rejection.
"Currently, my main document for residence is a permanent residence permit, but to update my legal status, I had to renew my Russian passport, which was only possible in Moldova, " Yurina explained.
This trip to Moldova turned out to be a logistical marathon, spanning six days and covering 2840 kilometers.
A Road Paved with Challenges
After returning from Moldova with her updated passport, Yurina submitted her citizenship application again, but her efforts seemed to hit a brick wall. The singer is now preparing for two additional exams and requires a recommendation from the Ministry of Culture, identifying her as a strategically important individual for Ukraine.
"I've already twice sent letters to the Ministry of Culture to vouch for me and received an interim response, " Yurina noted.
Despite being married to a Ukrainian citizen and having studied in Ukraine, her documentation is still under scrutiny.
The Road Ahead
Despite the setbacks, Yurina remains committed to her goal of Ukrainian citizenship. Her story is a testament to the complexities faced by many who wish to integrate fully into a new society. The singer's determination to navigate this bureaucratic maze showcases her deep connection to Ukraine, a country she has called home for over a decade.
