Despite four months of wedding celebrations between March and July 2024, the son of India's richest man Anant Ambani and his wife Radhika Merchant are still planning to party in the UK. The couple are likely to host stars such as former prime minister Boris Johnson and Prince Harry at Stoke Park, a luxury seven-star hotel and country club in Berkshire with a luxury mansion and 27-hole golf course.

Elite celebration in Stock Park

In 2021, Anant's father, Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, who is the chairman of Reliance Industries, leased a 121-hectare plot for $73 million. He planned to renovate the premises for his son and his fiancee. And while this idea is a great way to extend the holiday, local residents worry that India's rich will use the hotel for personal purposes.

Reconstruction and modernization

Using some of his estimated $116 billion fortune, Mukesh plans to fix the leaking roof and cracks in the walls. The website stated that "the premises are suffering from neglect and lack of investment". It added that "it will require significant funding to restore what has been lost, while modernizing the mansion to modern requirements."

Problems with the golf course

Meanwhile, the golf course reportedly "doesn't live up to the spectacular atmosphere of the holiday and is not among the top 200 golf courses in the world." They are considering "re-opening the east gate and using the area currently in use as a green complex to house a new modern club". Planning permission has recently been granted on this site to create 4 luxury villas.

Reaction of local residents

The Ambanis have reserved the commercial property until September for their own use, causing concern among the township residents. According to the Financial Times, Mukesh fell out with the local council over the hotel's sudden closure to visitors. Stoke Park law firm Withers wrote to the council insisting that Reliance Industries representatives and their families had "occasionally" occupied Stoke Park, which "conforms to the permitted use of the hotel".
