Princess Leia's golden costume from "Star Wars" sold for a record amount
Princess Leia's golden costume, worn by Carrie Fisher during the filming of the epic film "Return of the Jedi", has found a new owner for an outstanding price. The Heritage Auctions auction held in Dallas brought together the most ardent fans of the Star Wars franchise who fought for this unique artifact.
Unique Star Wars artifact sold
Designed by Richard Miller, Chief Sculptor of Industrial Light & Magic, the commemorative costume consisted of seven pieces, including a bikini bra, bikini pads, hip rings and other accessories. Although this costume did not make it into the final version of the film and was replaced by a more comfortable one, its significance to fans is undeniable.
"The costume sold was worn by Fisher on set, but ultimately did not make it into the final cut of the film, " said Joe Maddalena, executive vice president of Heritage Auctions.
Battle for Legend: Bidding War
The suit sparked a veritable bidding war among collectors before finding a new owner. It eventually sold for $175, 000, making it one of the most expensive artefacts in the world of cinema.
Not only the suit attracted attention at the auction. A model of the Y-wing fighter that took part in the battle with the Death Star in the original film has sold for an impressive $1.55 million. This shows that the love for Star Wars does not diminish with time.
Criticism and cultural influence
Not without criticism. Some believe that the costume sexualizes Princess Leia's image, limiting her to a male fan base. However, its historical and cultural significance is difficult to overestimate. This costume has become an icon of an era and an important part of the Star Wars cultural heritage.
